This is the big daddy of the Chicago range.  At its heart it is a Chicago Standard only with extra plate bracing to make it super rigid.  The more rigid a horn is the more efficient it will be.  Put simply, this means the more of what you put in the little end comes out the big end.  Less of your energy is wasted being absorbed into the trumpet.  The result is more sound and volume for less effort.  Word to the wise, this horn is heavy, so if you regularly play long gigs then seriously consider the Standard as it might be a better long term compromise.  One thing for sure, this horn is not for the faint hearted.  People will notice the minute you take it out of its case, so be prepared to attract attention.

Chicago Standard

The benchmark for what could be referred to as the heavy horn brigade.  It has the same internal tapers as the Chicago Lite so it is a comfortable easy responsive blow just like the Lite.

Pricing:

  • Raw Brass: £3550
  • Lacquer: £3995

Price includes a mouthpiece (extra gold plated mouthpieces are £160 each)

The benchmark for what could be referred to as the heavy horn brigade.  It has the same internal tapers as the Chicago Lite so it is a comfortable easy responsive blow just like the Lite.  Unlike some trumpets purporting to be heavyweights, the Standard (and the Custom) are not regular horns dressed up with weights attached.  These are built from the outset with heavier gauge material, so the weight is where it should be, in the body and construction of the instrument.  In a nutshell… built properly and built to last.

The Standard has a bit more dynamic range and power over the Lite.  You can wind this thing up and it will never get brittle and course.  It will keep its thick core sound and just get louder.  One thing for sure, it will take however much ‘air’ you can throw at it.  This makes it a great choice for jazz quartet or quintet.  Sexy soft tones and this horn can be ‘punch in the face loud’ when you need to step on the volume pedal.

Chicago Lite

Having no solder joins to break, results in a more even transmission of energy along the full length of the receiver and leadpipe.

Lightest of the Chicago line featuring the one piece machined from solid brass rod leadpipe.  Having no solder joins to break, results in a more even transmission of energy along the full length of the receiver and leadpipe.  An even taper throughout the leadpipe and consistent metal structure helps to create a super even response throughout the range both tonally and response wise.  Very versatile, easy to play solid powerhouse of a horn.  A great instrument for ensemble playing as well as jazz.

Chicago VR

The Chicago VR has a bit more of a focused delivery and a more strident, almost heraldic tone than our larger Chicago models.

This one is for those with a leaning toward being a more traditional classical player, or if that genre makes up most of your playing schedule.  It has a bit more of a focused delivery and a more strident, almost heraldic tone than our larger Chicago models.  When it is important that you blend with the Bach Brigade then this is more than up to the job, and, with headroom to spare.  Why beat yourself up playing that Strad when for similar money this can do all that with ease and still have some left in the tank.  It’s worth mentioning that the Chicago VR can also double as a very capable strong lead horn.
